Local Attractions
Lake Vrynwy
The lake has fabulous walks, sailing and an enormous cycle route around it (bikes can be hired although we suggest you pre-book). Great place for picnics. At the far end is a picturesque waterfall a short walk just by Rhiwargor Waterfall Car Park. Built in the 1880s for The Liverpool Corporation the lake supplies Liverpool with fresh water. When it was built it flooded the head of the Vyrnwy valley and submerged the village of Llanwddyn. Roof tops of the original submerged village houses can still be seen during very dry summers.
Rhiwargor Waterfall
The spectacular high waterfall gushes down the heather clad slopes of the valley of Afon Eiddew. Situated at the Northern end of Lake Vyrnwy, know locally as Rhiwargor Waterfall. The falls can be reached from a short walk from the car park. Once at the falls you can picnic or even try some wild swimming in the various pools!
Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall
Pistyll Rhaeadr is often referred to as one of the seven wonders of wales, a magical waterfall that cascades down a cliff in the Berwyn mountain range. At 80m high it is Britain's tallest single drop waterfall a captivating sight not to be missed. it is a great place to explore the Berwyn mountains & surrounding hills with many walks to suit a variety of walkers.
Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway
Journey through the beautiful Mid Wales countryside, built in 1903 to link farming communities with the market town of Welshpool and provide them with an outlet for their produce, the 2ft 6 inch narrow gauge steam railway now provides a tourist services and a welcome change from everyday life. Open April-September.
Powis Castle & Gardens
A medieval castle, fortress & grand house cared for by the National Trust since 1952. With views across the Severn Valley, the world famous garden retains many of the original features including the 17th Century Italianate terrace lined with herbaceous borders and 30ft clipped yew trees. A deer park surrounds the ground of the castle & there is a lovely circular walk from Welshpool through to the Castle and back alongside the Montgomery Canal.
Cadair Idris
Only an hours drive from the site, Cadair Idris is a popular peak to conquer in Southern Eryri (Snowdonia) due to its breath taking landscape and said -to-be Wales deepest lake at its base, Llyn Cau. A popular spot to swim, the lake reflects the peak above its dark waters. There are 3 recommended routes so head to the website to check the weather and plan your route!
Bala White Water Rafting
Located riverside at Canolfan Trywern near Bala, Snowdonia, the rafting takes place right outside the door on class 3-4 white water. Being dam controlled the Tryweryn has fantastic water levels. This is a wild day out that a rainy day cant spoil, embrace getting soaked!
Zipworld Fforest
A stunning woodland setting nestled in the North Wales, Conwy valley, close to the iconic village of Betws-y-Coed,a host of forest adventures awaits. Chester Zoo
Wonderful day out, with over 20,000 animals and 128 acres of Zoological gardens it is one of the Worlds top zoos, and the UKs number 1 wildlife attraction. A key player in many conservation projects both at home and abroad.
Aberdyfi Beach
Aberdyfi is a very quaint harbour village that looks over toward the Ynys Las nature reserve and is a great spot for an ice cream on the beach or some crabbing off the pier. With a street of painted houses not only is Aberdyfi a pretty spot for some instagram photos it has a lovely stretch of sandy beach with a selection of places to eat.
